What is a prompt?
A prompt is the instruction an AI system receives — the user's question plus the underlying, usually invisible system instruction that defines role, tone, and boundaries. The quality of the answer depends largely on how precisely this instruction is formulated.
01 — Context
Prompt in detail
In a business system, there are almost always two levels: the system prompt, which the operator sets once, and the user's input. The system prompt contains the actual rules — what is discussed, what is not answered, when to hand over to a human.
For individual requests, a simple rule applies: the more clearly you state the desired scope, format, and audience, the more useful the answer. “Summarize this for a customer without technical knowledge in five sentences” delivers reliably better results than “summarize this”.
02 — Practice
What this means for small businesses
Staff don't need training in technology for this, but two or three examples from their own daily work. That's the fastest lever to make AI tools useful rather than frustrating in your business.
03 — Questions
Frequently asked questions
Is prompt engineering a profession in itself?
Not for everyday business. What matters are a few proven phrasings for recurring tasks — any team can collect those themselves.
Can you write confidential data in a prompt?
Only in secured business accounts with an appropriate contract. In free consumer accounts, personal or confidential content does not belong.

Let's talk briefly about whether this makes sense for you.
A twenty-minute conversation is usually enough to clarify whether a project makes sense. If not, we'll say so — that's cheaper for both sides than an offer nobody needs.
