Having a website created: using funding in Austria
For digitalization projects like having a website created, there are several funding programs in Austria. Which ones are eligible, which deadlines to note, and where the most common mistake lies.
For digitalization projects, there are several funding programs in Austria, such as KMU.DIGITAL (SME.DIGITAL, a federal digitalization support program for small and medium businesses) or the aws-Digitalisierungsförderung (aws digitalization funding, provided by Austria Wirtschaftsservice). Whether and to what extent one of these is currently eligible for your project, we will check individually with you. Current conditions: kmudigital.at, aws.at. The order is crucial in every case: first the approved application, then the order for having a website created.

For digitalization projects, there are several funding programs in Austria, such as KMU.DIGITAL or the aws digitalization funding. Whether and to what extent one of these is currently relevant for your project, we'll review with you individually. Current conditions: kmudigital.at, aws.at.
Which program is relevant, how high the subsidy currently is, and whether the budget for the current funding period is still open changes regularly — plus there are regional funding programs that vary by federal state. Only the information from the funding agencies themselves is reliable, not a fixed percentage stated here.
The most common mistake is always the same: commission first, then want funding. That doesn't work. Allow several weeks of lead time for application and approval.

Check funding program
Which program fits the project and company size. This determines the subsidy amount and effort.
Obtain quote
A quote is usually required for the application — commissioning does not happen yet.
Submit application
Submission with project description, cost breakdown and schedule.
Wait for approval
Only after approval is the commission placed. If you commission earlier, you lose the funding.
Implement and settle accounts
After completion, final accounting with supporting documents follows.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take?
Four to eight weeks is realistic if content and images arrive on time. The bottleneck is practically never development, but approval of texts and photos.
What does ongoing operation cost?
Hosting, domain, updates, and backups are ongoing costs — how much depends on the size and requirements of the site, and we state that transparently in the quote. Anyone who skimps on that skimps until the first security incident.
WordPress or something else?
Depends on the case. WordPress makes sense when many people manage content and standard features are enough. Where speed, security, or custom functions matter, we build leaner. We don't recommend what we like building most, but what you can still operate in three years.
What does a website cost in Austria?
There's no serious way to answer that as a flat rate — the market ranges are huge because a one-pager and a multilingual company site with twenty pages are completely different projects technically. What matters most is how much content has to be created from scratch — that's almost always the biggest line item, not the technology. Does our website have to be accessible?
Since 28 June 2025, the Accessibility Act (Barrierefreiheitsgesetz) applies in Austria. Mainly affected are online shops, bookings, e-ticketing, and banking services in consumer business; micro-enterprises are exempt for services. A pure information site generally doesn't fall under it — we still build to WCAG 2.1 AA because it makes the site better for everyone and the rules tend to get stricter.

Can we manage the site ourselves?
Yes. You maintain texts, images, and simple pages yourself. For structural changes you get in touch — or not, that's not a dependency we build.
